Choose from the career-focused Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) for adults who've earned credit at other institutions, or the Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) geared to community college graduates.

Learn why many returning students come to the University of Iowa to complete their degree.

  • Convenience: Work at your own pace, completing classes either online or on-campus
  • Career Advancement: Earn a degree that will position you for future success

Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS)

Designed for working adults who've earned credit at other institutions.  The career-focused program emphasizes workplace and leadership skills, mixing common-core courses and a track you select (plus a certificate program, if you like.)  You can complete the program entirely online or by mixing on-site and online courses.  Current tracks include: Health and Human Studies, Organizational Studies and Global Studies.

Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS)

Designed for community college graduates transferring 60 semester hours of transferable college credit.  Create your own general studies plan instead of a traditional major, or choose a certificate or emphasis area. The program is designed so you can complete it wherever you are, without coming to campus.

Restart Your Degree

If you were previously enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and are returning to the University of Iowa after an extended absence (four consecutive years or more), you may be eligible to use the CLAS Restart option to request removal of one or more of your previously completed CLAS academic sessions from future grade point averages and satisfaction of degree requirements.  For details go to: http://clas.uiowa.edu/students/handbook/restart
