Off-campus Paper Exams

Off-Campus Paper Exams

Arrange to complete paper-based exams with a proctor outside of the Iowa City area if you are unable to go to an Iowa City Test Center.

Your proctor's contact information must be submitted to DOE Exam Services and approved before exams will be mailed to your proctor. To ensure timely delivery of your exams, proctor information should be submitted a minimum of two weeks before your exam date. You are responsible for any proctoring fees incurred at an off-campus location. Follow the steps below to complete paper-based exams with an off-campus proctor.

If you live in the Des Moines area, you can take paper-based exams at the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center (JMPEC).

  1. Contact a person in one of the following roles in your area to ask if they proctor exams.
    • Proctors designated by libraries (public, school, or college), learning centers, or testing centers
    • Administrators or faculty of accredited institutions (e.g., deans, directors, or faculty)
    • Military education officers or commanding officers
    • Administrative official of a U.S. Embassy or Consulate
  2. Collect the following information from the proctor:
    • Name and position/title
    • Institution address
    • Phone number and email address
  3. Login to the DOE Exam Scheduler with your HawkID and password to submit proctor information for approval.
    • Forgot your HawkID password? See HawkID Tools for instructions.
  4.  Wait for your proctor approval email from DOE Exam Services, then contact your proctor to schedule an exam appointment.

NOTE:

  • To ensure exam integrity, we reserve the right to reject any proposed proctor or any previously approved proctor.
  • Exams will not be sent to and cannot be administered at private residences.
  • No relative, direct supervisor, or tutor (regardless of academic qualifications) may proctor an exam.
  • If your proctor is rejected, you must select a different proctor and submit a new request for consideration and approval.
