Other Proctoring Services

Distance and Online Education (DOE) Exam Services offers proctoring services for CLEP and DSST exams, as well as exams from other institutions. We do not charge proctoring fees. 

    Students may make a proctored exam request for non-University of Iowa exams. Exams can be completed in one of our Iowa City Test Centers. Proctored Exams requests must be made at least 3 business days prior to the exam date. To schedule a non-University of Iowa exam, contact doe-exams@uiowa.edu.

    We will need the following information. Please include as many of these details as known in your request. 

    1. Your name and email address
    2. Your instructor’s name and email address
    3. Your Institution’s name
    4. Your course title and number
    5. Exam name/number
    6. Exam duration in minutes
    7. Exam type (paper or online)
    8. Testing materials allowed
    9. Preferred dates/times to take the exam

    Please feel free to share the following information with your instructor and/or institution. 

    Paper-Based Exams

    • DOE Exam Services will accept paper-based exams via mail or email.
    • Completed exams can be returned to the instructor via mail or email.
    • Please provide a self-addressed postage paid return envelope to have the exam returned via mail.
    • DOE Exam Services does not retain electronic or paper copies of exams. Completed paper exams returned via email will be shredded after 10 business days. 

    Online Exams

    Instructors provide proctoring instructions and include any password or restrictions pertaining to the exam. Note the following limitations for online exams:

    • Test Center computers run Microsoft Windows and have Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers installed.
    • No software installation, open executable (.exe) files or media/drives/devices are allowed.
    • No files may be saved to the computers. 
    • No printing is available from the Test Center computers.
