6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays

Are you responsible for community planning or hope to be?  Is your city prepared if a disaster strikes?

Urban planners and other public sector professionals can play a vital role in both reducing loss of life and property from natural disasters, and in helping communities recover from them.

Learn the key information needed to keep your city safe.

In this course, you will:

  • examine the two key areas of hazard-related public policy:  Hazard mitigation and post-disaster recovery.
  • be able to distinguish the specific fields of public sector activity in which you and other professionals can contribute to make communities safer and more resilient in the face of natural and other disasters.
  • address the need to adapt a community's building and infrastructure standards to deal with the hazards posed or exacerbated by climate change.
